(February 28/2017) Senior leaders of the Ministry of Education held a discussion with the leaders of Dembidolo University and community members.
The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, stated that efforts are being made to ensure that universities are free from village mentality and political influence so that they can fulfill their mission properly.
Universities should be the leaders of the country’s knowledge, where free and genuine intellectual discussions take place; we want them to go there, he said;
He also urged that universities should be the leaders of good morals who distinguish between right and wrong, and who oppose and prevent corruption.
On his part, the State Minister for Higher Education Development, Ato Kora Tushune, said that universities should identify priority issues in order to properly utilize their resources and solve problems step by step;
He said that the new leadership should focus on ensuring the quality of education.
Solomon Abraha (PhD), the Executive Director of the Higher Education Development Sector, presented the strong and improving issues seen in the institution as a basis for discussion, and explained that the new leaders of the university should work hard to get the institution out of its current problems.
The acting president of the university, Tadesse Regasa (PhD), stated that they have started working in consultation with all the leadership and stakeholders to transform the institution.
Members of the university community also raised various questions and were responded to by the relevant bodies.
Dembidolo University is known to be one of the universities that has undergone a new leadership change.
