The training of teachers and school leaders, which is being conducted at 30 selected universities in the country, has begun. More than 84,000 secondary school teachers and school leaders will participate in the training.
(July 28/2017) The Executive Dean of the College of Education and Language Studies of Addis Ababa University, one of the universities that has started the training, Yekodaalem Dessie (PhD), said that the university has completed the registration of training teachers, training rooms, student dormitories, cafeterias, and training modules to train students in a good way.
Since the training covers the type of education that teachers teach, teaching methods, use of technology, as well as psychological, social, and health issues, and fills a wide gap, he pointed out that the trainees should be calm and not forget the purpose of their training, and should talk and learn in the classroom, with other friends and with the training teachers.
The training coordinator, Ato Tadesse Teresa, who we met at the university, indicated that the trainees were welcomed by the university and briefed on the training.
He stated that the training will contribute significantly to improving the performance of students and solving problems in education by strengthening the capacity of teachers and school leaders.
Kumale Abera, an economics teacher at Fana 02 Secondary School, who we met at the training, said that she expects the training to provide her with practical knowledge, technology use, and teaching methodology skills in addition to her previous knowledge and skills.
Tafo Secondary School teacher Zewditu Seboka, for her part, noted that the teachers trained last year were highly motivated and eager to teach, and said that the training would provide her with additional capacity and increase her motivation.
