(May 22/2017) The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a model secondary school to be built by the People for People Humanitarian Organization in Gambella Region was held.
The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony, said that efforts are being made to produce competent and competitive students by building secondary schools with complete infrastructure in each area.
He said that the construction of this school will contribute significantly to addressing the high quality of education and classroom shortages in Gambella Region.
He added that it is imperative to create a conducive environment where all Ethiopians have equal opportunities to learn and explained that extensive work is being done in this regard.
He said that 31 model secondary schools will be built across the country, 15 of which will be built by the Ministry of Education and 16 by the People for People Humanitarian Organization, and special attention will be paid to regions with inadequate infrastructure.
The Head of Gambella Regional State, His Excellency Alemitu Umod, for her part, noted that this school will contribute significantly to ensuring the quality of education in the region and said that we will work hard to improve the low student achievement recorded in our region.
He said that it is possible to pass the 21st century exams when it is possible to produce citizens who are equipped with the skills required by the time, problem solvers, competent and competitive;
Since the issue of quality of education is a matter of survival, he called on everyone to play their part to improve the quality of education in the region.
It was stated that the entire cost of the construction of this model secondary school will be covered by the People for People Humanitarian Organization and it will be completed within a year.
An agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Education and the Regional Education Bureau to monitor the construction to ensure its completion on time.
