(September 07/2017) The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, received Amanda McLoughlin, the Director General of the FCDO Ethiopia, at his office and discussed the reform work underway in Ethiopia.
At the same time, the Minister of Education noted that Ethiopia is implementing several reform activities that will ensure the quality of education in the education sector.
He noted that the support of all stakeholders is needed in the areas that the Ministry has prioritized in order to achieve greater success in the reform activities that have been initiated.
Therefore, he called for the acceleration of the funding of the Education Transformation Operation for Learning (ETOL) project; he also stressed that support in this regard should be strengthened, as one of the reasons for the decline in the quality of education is the lack of English language skills.
The new FCDO Ethiopia Director General Amanda McLoughlin, for her part, expressed her appreciation for the reform activities initiated in the education sector, and said that FCDO’s technical support to Ethiopia will continue. In particular, the Director General noted that Ethiopia is the first among the ten African countries selected by the British government for support, and said that the support provided through the ETOL Project and the English Language Improvement Program will continue to be strengthened.
