A digital map showing the distribution of schools was unveiled in the presence of the Minister of Education.
(July 03/2017) The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, announced that a digital map showing the distribution of schools has been prepared to enable schools to be built based on clear and accurate information in order to bring about equitable development in the education sector in the country.
Professor Berhanu also noted that in the past, the selection of school construction sites was not based on impartiality and sufficient information, but on race, ethnicity and political interests.
Therefore, under the new system, any person or donor organization interested in building schools in Ethiopia can build our schools based on accurate information without having to ask any government official or influential person, he announced.
He added that all Ethiopians should have equal access to education and that he is working hard to provide education to all citizens in an equitable manner.
The Executive Director of the Education Program Quality and Improvement, Dr. Yohannes Wegaso, for his part, noted that the published school distribution map includes the current distribution of schools at every level, starting from the kebele, infrastructure, population and other information.
Therefore, he explained that donors and other stakeholders in the sector can use the information to build schools and contribute their share.
It was also stated that the schools will be built according to the prepared standards in this education distribution map and where they will be built.
Foreign and local stakeholders who are partners in education development also participated in the forum.
