The closing ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the University of Gondar and the 100th anniversary of the Teaching Hospital was held.

(July 30/2017) The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, who attended the ceremony, said that this celebration is a way to see the benefits of the University of Gondar to Gondar and the local people, as well as the respect the people have for the institution.
He said that the celebration, in addition to the establishment of the university and the hospital, also reflected the deep sense of Ethiopianism of the people of Gondar, especially during this difficult time.
In particular, the “Gonder Covenant Family Program,” where the University of Gondar welcomes Ethiopian students from all regions as citizens, is an example not only for Gondar but also for our country.
The minister said that what we want universities to do is to make them a national asset, not a village asset;
He explained that the main reform now is to make universities a peaceful place where people who work freely, think freely, and seek truth and knowledge gather.
He said that universities are expected to help their environment through teaching, research, and improving the lives of the people by using the blessings of the environment.
On his part, Gondar University President Asrat Atsedwein (Dr.) stated that the 70th anniversary of the university and the 100th anniversary of the teaching hospital have been celebrated successfully since January 2017 and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the program.
The president, who recounted the historical journey that Gondar University has made since its establishment, also stated that the university is making great efforts to become autonomous in the future.
