(On Nehasie 20/2017 E.C.) According to W/ro Selamawit Alemu, head of the Ministry of Education’s Community Engagement and National Awareness Desk, the training was provided to 121 students selected from all regions and city administrations who are in grades 9 to 11 at the secondary education level.
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Addis Ababa University and Addis Coder, organized a nationwide winter training program aimed at enhancing students’ knowledge in computer programming and algorithm programs through both theoretical and practical approaches.
The training is part of the Digital Ethiopia initiative, launched by Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, who is also the patron of the 5 Million Coders Program, as explained by the responsible official.
Professor Gilane Nelson, president of Addis Coder, stated that students from all over the country who are in grades 9 through 11 participated in the four-week intensive training focused on algorithms and programming.
The training was delivered by four professors from America with extensive experience and expertise, along with the assistance of 31 selected assistants from around the world, as noted by President Professor Gilane.
The purpose of the training is to equip interested and dedicated secondary school students with knowledge of algorithms and programming and to enhance their skills so that they can contribute to their country’s development in the future.
Students who successfully completed the one-month training at Addis Ababa University were awarded certificates, and 27 trainers who demonstrated outstanding performance during the training were honored with laptop computer prizes.
For the 10th consecutive time, participants of this training have presented various projects based on the knowledge they gained in theory and practice, and different educational curricula have also been implemented.
