(July 29/2017) Director of the Institute of Lifelong Learning at Kotebe University of Education, Dr. Yoel Abate (Dr.) stated that the training is based on gaps identified in research that teachers and school leaders have difficulty with.
Dr. Yoel pointed out that there is a gap in our country in terms of connecting education with students’ lives and providing it in a practical way so that students can enjoy the education and gain knowledge and skills that they can use in their lives.
The director also pointed out that the training is a way for students to develop their capacity to apply knowledge or concepts to their own lives and to provide them with practical teaching methods or philosophies.
Therefore, the trainee teachers and school leaders said that the training is a capacity building program that can solve the main and fundamental problems in our education system, so they are expected to attend properly and acquire the appropriate knowledge and skills.
Dr. Eyoel added that the Kotebe University of Education has received the assigned trainee secondary school teachers and school leaders, completed the necessary arrangements for accommodation, dining, teaching and other matters, and started teaching in twelve training areas.
East Hailu, an economics teacher at Dejazmach Wondirad Secondary School assigned to the Kotebe University of Education, said that she is new to the training and that she expects to gain knowledge, experience and expertise from the teachers and other economics teachers during the training.
Aseged Tesfaye, a mathematics teacher at Dr. Hadis Alemayehu Secondary School in Bole, said that she left her children and family who needed her support to focus on the training and came to the university with the intention of bringing about change, especially in the use of technology, and providing better knowledge and education to her students.
