(January 16/2017) The Ministry of Education held a discussion with stakeholders on issues that could lead to the development of a gender-sensitive learning and teaching system.
In his opening speech, the Chief Executive of Teachers and School Leadership at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Muluken Ngatu, emphasized that by developing a gender-sensitive learning and teaching system, students, teachers, education administrators and parents should be enabled to play their roles in achieving the quality of education.
In his message in this regard, the Chief Executive called on stakeholders to play their roles in the efforts to improve student outcomes by establishing an appropriate and modern learning and teaching system.
This is said to not only help students feel equal in the classroom but also to foster rational thinking and produce capable citizens who contribute to themselves and their country.
The Executive Director of the Women and Social Affairs Unit at the Ministry of Education, Ms. Mehrete Christos Tamiru, said that many works are being carried out to ensure gender equality and improve the results of female students, and she said that recently, a gender-sensitive teaching methodology training manual and a school-based hygiene material preparation and management manual are being implemented.
The works being carried out will enhance gender equality in the teaching and learning process and improve the availability of hygiene materials for female students, she said.
