(May 28/2017) The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education Quality and Programs, Yohannes Wegaso (Dr.), stated that special attention is being paid to pre-primary education to solve the problem of education quality in our country from the root.
He explained that since there are many problems in education quality, it is not possible to solve these problems with just one strategy, and therefore, it is necessary to take several solutions.
He also said that if education is to be changed sustainably, it is necessary to work on the initial foundation and that the government is paying special attention to early childhood education in the education sector.
He also explained that the Ministry of Education has made pre-primary education free and compulsory for children aged 5 and 6 years in its education policy and that it has prepared and implemented an early childhood education and care policy framework, and that it is working in coordination with other ministries for its implementation.
In this regard, Dr. Yohannes stated that more than 17,000 pre-primary schools have been newly built and started teaching and learning in all regions through a civil society movement. He added that a strategy is being developed to address the shortage of teachers in pre-primary education.
He added that a special strategy has been developed to ensure access to pre-primary education in all areas at the current pace and in a manner that maintains quality, adding that more emphasis will be placed on it in the future.
