(February 20/2018) Professors from Yotohama University, Japan, shared their experience and expertise in mathematics and science education to implement competency-based learning.
Ato Tadesse Teresa, Head of the Mathematics, Science and Arts Enrichment Desk, attended the experience exchange forum and said that efforts are being made to implement competency-based learning according to the curriculum.
To achieve this, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), professional professors from Yotohama University have provided training to 15 experts from 5 regions and the Federal STEAM Desk, and to expand the training provided, training modules have been prepared and training has been provided at selected teacher education colleges, explained the desk head, Ato Tadesse.
The representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)/ Ethiopia office, Mr. Yakushi Hiroyuki, noted that JICA has contributed to the improvement of student achievement in the Ethiopian education sector, especially in mathematics and science education.
He stated that investing in mathematics and science education supports the future development of the country and thanked Yotohama University for its strong partnership in sharing its experience and expertise. Finally, the Head expressed his hope that the support will continue.
The forum also highlighted the significant support provided by JICA in the preparation of 9th-12th grade mathematics textbooks and similar activities based on the new curriculum.
