(May 26/2017) It is known that one of the steps taken by the Ministry of Education to solve the fundamental problem in the education system is to adjust the educational assessment and examination administration system.
Explaining the work done so far in this process, the Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, said that education is knowledge and a certificate is a way to measure that knowledge.
The Minister said that what is obtained through theft, fraud and cheating is obtaining a certificate without knowledge. This is not only a lack of knowledge, but also because the certificate says that you have knowledge, and no matter what, a section of the society is created that believes that they have knowledge just because they have a certificate in their hands; this will greatly harm the society.
He explained that if the fraud, theft and cheating that has been rampant in the education sector were only done by students, it could be considered a problem for the children. However, he said that the students who are doing this are doing it because they are school administrators, regional trainers and others are doing it to ensure that our children pass, which is why he has fallen into a deep moral decline.
Therefore, if we want to educate the future generation with quality, it is necessary to solve the problem from the ground up and create trust among everyone that knowledge cannot be obtained through cheating and fraud, and that this will harm the country.
With this, with the reform measures taken to correct this gap, students have started to study systematically, go to the library, use their time properly, study tutorials in their free time and pay enough attention to their studies.
Teachers are also properly prepared to teach and prepare students well, school principals have also started to ensure that all students follow their studies and pass the class properly,
The education system in each region is moving away from the numbers game of “I passed this much in my area in Kurija” and is creating a system where children are assessed only on their knowledge. For example, they mentioned that the 6th and 8th grade regional exams are being implemented properly.
Therefore, if this can be continued, the assessment and examination administration system will be properly adjusted. If we can properly eliminate the moral crisis that has occurred and continue the approach that education is based only on knowledge and skills without going back, it will be a starting point for improving the quality of education we are doing, he said.
He also stated that since the reform of the general education assessment and examination administration system began, the steps taken have created confidence among students and the community that there is no such thing as cheating and cheating, and that results can only be achieved through hard work and study.
He added that adequate preparations have been made to conduct the Grade 12 national examination in the usual manner this year, especially since 150,000 students will take their exams online, which is more than last year.
The Minister said that in this process, a situation will be created where all students will be tested online in the next three years. If the examination administration system is streamlined in this way, efforts will be made to ensure the quality of education in order to produce competent and competitive students.
This year, more than 600,000 students are expected to take their Grade 12 national examination on paper and online.
