(November 10, 2017) The Republic of Hungary and the Ministry of Education of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will provide free education to hundreds of Ethiopians.
The State Minister for Higher Education Development of the Ministry of Education, Ato Kora Tushune, said during the signing of the agreement that Hungary has been providing free education to many Ethiopians in the field of education in undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs due to its long-standing relationship with Ethiopia.
He said that in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries, the country is prepared to provide free education opportunities to 100 Ethiopians every year, which will further strengthen the educational and university-to-university relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Ethiopia, Mr. Attila Kopany, for his part, pointed out that there is a long-standing cooperation and friendship between the two countries in the education sector, and said that the agreement signed today in the education sector will further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
The ambassador pointed out that it is not the first time that Hungary has given free education to Ethiopia. A. A. Since 2017, they have been providing free education to 50 students in second and third degree. He said that he aims to increase it to 100 from 2025.
The country’s minister of foreign affairs decided to double the free education opportunity that the country provides to Ethiopia. Ambassador Attila Kopani also explained that it follows his visit to Ethiopia in 2023.
Officials of both parties were also present at the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding.
