The Ethiopian Universities Sports Competition, which was opened on January 17/2017 by Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, is underway.
In the men’s competitions at the World Taekwondo, Fasil Lakewe from Debre Berhan won gold in the 80 kg category, Gizachew Demise from Wolkite in the 74 kg category, Amanuel Daniel from Bahir Dar in the 68 kg category, Fikadu Daniel from Hawassa in the 63 kg category, Tethai Aderawu from Wolayta Sodo in the 58 kg category, and Diriba Debela from Jimma University won gold medals in the 54 kg category.
In the women’s World Taekwondo, Zeyneba Bonta from Jigjiga won gold in the 67 kg category, Tsegenet Gorfu from Debre Tabor won gold in the 62 kg category, Azeb Gonfa from Selale won gold in the 57 kg category, Yabsra Bekele from Bahir Dar won gold in the 53 kg category, Adew Kassa from Debre Tabor University won gold in the 49 kg category, and Yerushalayim Teshome from Federal Technical and Vocational University won gold in the 46 kg category.
The silver medals were won by the men’s universities of Selale, Mekdela Amba, Haramaya, Watchmo, Arsi, and Debre Tabor.
The women’s silver medals were won by the competitors of Werabe, Jinka, Dire Dawa, Semera, and Federal Technical and Vocational University.
A total of 24 bronze medals were won by the winning universities in the World Taekwondo for both men and women.
The competition is ongoing, with strong competition in chess and traditional sports competitions, as well as football and athletics.
The Ethiopian University Students Sports Festival, which opened on January 17/2017 and was suspended for 9 years due to COVID and other reasons, will continue until January 27/2017.
