(March 04/2017) The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, who attended the consultation forum, said that the reform measures being taken in the higher education sector indicate what level universities should reach in the future, so the management board leaders should be aware of the situation that is being changed in universities and fulfill their responsibilities accordingly.
The State Minister for Higher Education Development, Honorable Ato Kora Tushne, for his part, said that the management board leaders of universities should regularly review the work they have done in line with their vision and mission and establish an accountability system.
He also explained that it is necessary to pay special attention to changing the education sector and ensuring fair and quality education.
At the consultation forum, the draft document on the recruitment, selection and placement of university leaders, the draft proclamation on higher education, and the draft document on free community service for university students were presented for discussion by Solomon Abraha (PhD), the Executive Director of Higher Education Administration and Infrastructure.
It was also stated that the draft documents presented aim to provide a legal basis for the direction of the reforms being implemented in the higher education development sector.
Based on the draft document, members of the University Management Board raised various questions and were given responses and explanations by the relevant parties.
