The Ministry of Education has distributed motorcycles purchased under the General Quality Improvement Program for Equity (GEQIP-E) budget to all regions and Dredawa city administration.
The Honorable Mrs. Ayelech Eshete, Minister of State for General Education Development, said at the handover ceremony that the support will make the work started to ensure the quality and equity of education effective and facilitate the work of teaching and learning.
The Minister of State explained that the motorcycles were distributed to support the educational work by taking into account the number of districts and schools in the states.
She pointed out that the motorcycles were purchased with the financial support of the World Bank and development partners under the coordination of the Ministry of Education.
The Honorable Minister of State added that the education offices of each state should monitor the motorcycles so that they are used only for their intended purpose.
Abdullahi Abdi, Head of the Somali Region Education Office, mentioned the lack of transportation in the region and said that the motorcycles will help the district education offices to go to the schools and provide the necessary support and supervision.
The Deputy Head of the Afar Region Education Bureau, Mr. Musa Adam, explained that since most of the region is rural, the motorcycles have a great contribution in connecting the district and schools.
Three months ago, the Ministry of Education distributed 26 hard top land cruisers and 26 double cabs and pick-ups, totaling 52 vehicles, to the states under the General Quality Improvement Program for Equity (GEQIP-E) budget.
