(February 26/2018) Members of the Zambian delegation exchanged experiences on the reform activities that Ethiopia is taking in the education sector.
At the same time, a briefing was given to the Zambian Education and Training Delegation on the reform activities that Ethiopia has implemented in the education sector.
The Executive Director of the Education Program and Quality Improvement, Yohannes Wegaso (Dr.), who made the briefing, explained that the reform measures and achievements that Ethiopia has taken in the education sector and the achievements recorded are valuable lessons for countries in the region.
The Executive Director, who stated that the reform activities that Ethiopia has undertaken in the quality and accessibility of education in the past few years are yielding tangible results. He explained that in addition to improving quality, it is working to ensure that all citizens have equal access to education and ensure equity.
The Acting Executive Director of Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, Ms. Zafu Abraha, explained that the changes and policy reforms made are of great importance in filling the structural gaps in the education system.
She also explained that the policy, curriculum and other organizational and operational changes made in this regard are having a positive impact on the quality of education.
The members of the Zambian Education and Training Delegation, on the other hand, expressed their encouragement for the changes and policy reforms seen in the Ethiopian education sector.
The Head of the Education Standards and Assessment Division at the Ministry of Education, Republic of Zambia, Prisca Simukonda explained that Ethiopia’s commitment to the education sector made them the main choice for their experience.
He also stated that the reform efforts carried out in the education sector in Ethiopia could serve as a good example for other African countries, adding that such exchanges of experiences would not only strengthen cooperation between countries but also contribute to the efforts to build a quality and equitable education system at the continent level.
