(February 09/2018) The State Minister for General Education Development, Ms. Ayelech Eshete, inspected the distribution process of the first round of Braille books prepared for distribution.
While inspecting the distribution process, the State Minister stated that various reform efforts are being implemented to ensure the quality, relevance, equity and accessibility of education.
Among the reform efforts, the State Minister stated that a new curriculum has been designed and implemented based on the revised Education and Training Policy.
In accordance with the implemented curriculum, the Honorable Ms. Ayelech also said that work is underway to deliver textbooks and teaching materials to students and teachers one-on-one.
The Honorable State Minister, who emphasized that all citizens have the right to access learning and teaching resources, also mentioned that efforts are being made to ensure that citizens have equal educational opportunities in all aspects.
He stated that the Braille books prepared for distribution will enable blind students to have access to sufficient textbooks and empower themselves, thus enabling them to have equal opportunities with other students and to be competent in knowledge and skills.
He also indicated that more than 23.9 million books are being printed, distributed and transported to deliver pre-primary and primary education books one-on-one.
Acting Executive Director of Curriculum Development, Ms. Zafu Abraha, on her part, said that the 2nd level Braille textbooks prepared for distribution under the new curriculum implementation process have been prepared in six (6) subject areas.
Indicating that the Braille textbooks have been printed for all blind students in the region, Ms. Zafu indicated that the currently printed and completed Braille textbooks will be transported from the center to the regional and city administrations starting Monday.
