(January 10/2018) The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building for Africa (UNESCO IICBA) and the Government of Japan, has organized a validation workshop on courses designed to improve the professional capacity of teachers and school leaders working in areas affected by natural and man-made disasters.
Inaugurating the forum, the Head of the Desk for Teachers and School Leaders, Ms. Aseged Mresa, stated that activities are being carried out to enable teachers and school leaders to receive training on the spot by digitizing short professional training courses.
Although the Ministry of Education is providing short-term on-the-job capacity building training for teachers and school leaders based on the new curriculum, Ms. Aseged stated that given the number and size of teachers and schools, there is a need to provide professional development training in the schools where the teachers are located.
Ms. Satsuki Fukai, First Secretary, Economic Cooperation Section, Embassy of Japan, who was present at the forum, said that her government is committed to supporting the Ministry of Education in implementing curriculum reforms and improving the professional capacity of teachers.
She indicated that the training prepared to improve the professional capacity of teachers using mobile ICT tools is also part of the overall development cooperation that her country is providing to Ethiopia through institutions such as UNESCO and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
