(September 8/2018) The Ministry of Education held an awareness-raising forum with teachers in charge of various clubs of teachers’ colleges in the country.
The Head of the Teacher and School Leadership Development Desk at the Ministry of Education, Ms. Aseged Meresa, who attended the forum, pointed out that HIV/AIDS and reproductive health should be focused on to ensure the overall success of the young generation.
She noted that the effectiveness of the education system is ensured by life skills training and knowledge provided alongside the formal education provided in the classroom, and she urged college teachers to ensure that the corresponding education clubs function well.
National UNESCO Secretary-General Alemu Getahun, for his part, noted that studies indicate that HIV/AIDS and reproductive health problems continue to be a threat to the young generation due to a lack of life skills training, and said that teacher training colleges are expected to work to raise awareness among the community.
He added that the awareness-raising platform will also establish a mechanism for effective practical activities by exchanging experiences based on the existing situation.
It was also said that the college teachers are expected to work to strengthen the HIV and reproductive health clubs in schools when they return to their respective countries.
