(Pagume 02/2017) On the occasion of Pagume 2, sanitary materials were provided to the female students of Menelik II and Etege Menen Girls’ Boarding Schools.
At the same time, the State Minister of Education, Honorable Ms. Ayelech Eshete, stated that the sanitary support provided is of great significance for the educational success of female students and said that similar works will continue to be strengthened.
She added that one of the issues included in the recently approved General Education Proclamation is the issue of making female students successful in education, and explained that schools must provide sanitary materials, which are one of the things that women need in school.
Noting that the proclamation was recently approved, the Honorable Minister of State stressed that all stakeholders working in the field of education should work in collaboration, cooperation and support for the implementation of the proclamation.
The Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Honorable Ergoge Tesfaye (Dr.), for his part, said that since the country is built through the contribution of each citizen, they should stand together and work together to elevate Ethiopia and enhance our values of support and understanding.
He stated that since both women and men stand together to develop the country, the support provided to female students for hygiene will have a great impact on girls and will solve the problem that prevents them from attending school.
The NGO “Women and Girls Support for Ethiopia” donated a technology-enabled sanitary pad called “Emye” to the Menelik II and Etege Menen Girls’ Boarding Secondary Schools, which will enable female students to continue their education without any problems.
It was also stated that the foundation for expanding the technology to other schools will be laid.
The ceremony was attended by senior leaders of seven ministries, partner organizations and education community members who are jointly celebrating the day.
