(July 25/2017) The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, received and spoke to the members of the delegation led by the Vice President of the Italian Parliament, Lia QUARTAPELLE PROCOPIA, at his office. At the same time, the Minister briefed them on the reform activities being carried out in the country to make education accessible to all citizens with quality and equity.
He noted that despite extensive work to expand and make education accessible in the past, the quality of education has been neglected and explained that various reform activities are being designed and implemented in the education sector to address this from the ground up. He mentioned that various activities have been carried out, starting from changing the curriculum to providing the examination administration system in a way that is free from theft and cheating.
The Minister, who noted that there are very few schools that meet their standards, also mentioned that the Education for Generations School Infrastructure Improvement Movement has been able to build and renovate more than 17,000 schools. He also explained that one-on-one delivery of student textbooks to secondary schools has been achieved and that additional textbooks are being printed for primary schools and schools are being built with support from the International Cooperation for Education, and he asked the Italian government to continue its support.
On her part, the Vice President of the Italian Council, Lia QUARTAPELLE PROCOPIA, noted that Italy has been supporting Ethiopia and Africa in various development areas and expressed her desire to continue to support the sector. He added that Ethiopia appreciates the reforms being undertaken in the education sector and will provide the necessary support for the success of the reform activities that have been initiated.
