(July 10/2017) In his opening speech at a workshop jointly organized by the National UNESCO and the UNESCO Institute for Teacher Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), the Secretary-General of the National UNESCO, Alemu Getahun, stated that Ethiopians and stakeholders are working to enhance the benefits our country derives from UNESCO by standing alongside the National UNESCO.

Alemu noted that the main objective of the workshop was to learn from the experiences of three African countries, namely Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda, in order to help enhance the national benefits derived from UNESCO.

He pointed out that the workshop focused on creating favorable conditions for participants to work together, coordinate, and build trust.

Ato Alemu added that the workshop was a platform for planning future major activities and capacity building plans through a panel discussion.

Dr. Quentin Woodon, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Teacher Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), said that the workshop was useful in strengthening the national UNESCO as an institution, strengthening and networking with sectors, institutions implementing UNESCO programmes, UNESCO capacity building centres and other partner organizations.

More than 20 domestic and international institutions participated in the workshop.
