The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide ten percent free education at Lycée Gebremariam.
French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, said during the signing of the MoU with the Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, that Lycée Gebremariam, established in 1947, is a testament to the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Ethiopia and France in the field of education.
The Foreign Minister, who stated that Lycée Gebremariam has trained many Ethiopians in its 77-year history, said that the signed agreement will enhance the trust and cooperation between the two countries in the field of education.
The French Foreign Minister also thanked the Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, for his dedication and contribution to the realization of the agreement.
The Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, for his part, indicated that efforts are being made to provide quality and equitable education, and said that according to the agreement, students from families who cannot afford to pay for their education at Lycée Gebremariam will be provided with free education opportunities of up to ten percent.
He noted that schools like Lycée Gebremariam in Ethiopia are working to provide quality education to children from families who cannot afford to pay for education, and this will help create a more democratic and stable society.
The Minister, who pointed out that there is a strong friendship and cooperation between Ethiopia and France through Lycée Gebremariam, said that the agreement will further strengthen the existing friendship and cooperation.
Prior to the signing of the MoU, French and European Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barot and Federal Minister of Education Professor Berhanu Nega visited the school.
