(July 05/2017) The Minister of Education discussed with the Executive Director the ongoing and ongoing cooperation with the World Bank in the education sector.
The Honorable Minister noted that despite extensive efforts to expand access to education in the past, there was a significant quality problem and explained to the Director the multifaceted education sector reforms being implemented in Ethiopia to change this.
He noted that efforts are being made to produce competent and competitive citizens and to make equitable and quality education accessible to all citizens, and noted that the World Bank’s assistance is needed alongside education development partners to implement these reforms related to the quality of education.
World Bank Executive Director Dr. Zeru Wendlin Kebwe, for his part, noted that education is a priority area of the World Bank and expressed his appreciation for the work being done to transform the education sector in Ethiopia and ensure the quality of education.
He also requested the Minister to participate in the upcoming 5-year and 10-year cooperation strategies between Ethiopia and the World Bank, especially those related to the education sector.
