(May 12/2017) Minister of Labor and Skills, Ms. Muferihat Kamil, stated at the opening of the conference that the education and training partnership between Ethiopia and the European Union should be strengthened by enhancing its quality and relevance.
Ms. Muferihat also emphasized that effective development cooperation should be implemented by strengthening relations between education and training institutions.
The Chief Executive Officer of Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education and National Representative for Erasmus (ERASMUS +) Eba Mijena (PhD) noted that more than 600 Ethiopians have benefited from free education opportunities through Erasmus Education and Training support since 2010.
Dr. Eba added that the aim of the European Union Erasmus Education and Training Support and Cooperation Conference that began today is to advise on how to continue strengthening education and training relations with sub-Saharan African countries, including Ethiopia.
The Head of the European Union’s Cooperation and Internationalisation Delegation, Mr. Roberto Schillero, explained that Erasmus is a European Union programme that focuses on education, training, youth, sport and culture.
The conference, which opened today under the title “The Role of Education in the Green Transition”, will continue until Wednesday, May 14, 2017, and participants representing 46 countries (13 from the European Union, 32 from sub-Saharan countries and 1 from North Africa) attended the conference.
